We know, we know…Halloween is just a couple days away. Maybe you carved your pumpkin early in the season and the squirrels got to it. Maybe you never got around to carving a pumpkin and need some spooky porch decoration. Maybe you just LOVE carving pumpkins! Whatever your situation, we got you.
Come on out to Oryana West from 3:30pm to 6:30pm for a pumpkin carving event. We’ll provide the pumpkin and the tools. You provide the creativity!
This event will be outside, so dress for the weather.

Come dressed in your costume and celebrate Halloween with a self-guided lantern-lit hike at the Boardman River Nature Center, featuring North Sky Raptor Sanctuary! Get ready for games, trivia, and live Raptors on the trail!

TADL Halloween Parade
Families are invited to join us for a gently spooky Halloween Parade through the 1st floor of the Main Library. Show off your costume and march around the library to your own Halloween beat. Families will start in our McGuire Community Room with Halloween games and a craft and then walk to Halloween booths located around the first floor and staffed by the various TADL Main departments. The final stop will be in the Youth Services department where you can pick up a Halloween craft.
The walking loop will take about 20 minutes so feel free to start your walk anytime between 11 and 11:40.

Where to Find the Goods
From the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of East Front Street to the shops on State Street and all the side streets in between, candy awaits around every corner. So grab your little ghouls and goblins and get ready to fill your bags with sweet surprises on the Downtown Halloween Walk.
Go With the Flow
With such a large amount of foot traffic on Front Street, we are encouraging a one-directional route (counterclockwise when facing west) for trick-or-treaters. This process will help keep traffic flowing oh-so-smoothly on busy streets and crosswalks. Volunteers will again be stationed at crosswalks and intersections to ensure safe crossings for all the li’l (and full size) monsters. Visit side streets and State Street businesses for easier access to all the treats!

Fall Harvest Gathering
This free fun family event is hosted by Parenting Communities and the Leland Library. Feel free to dress up in costumes, or not. We will have fall crafts, a fall family photo station, snacks, apple activities, and Lord of the Gourd will be at the event carving pumpkins.
Dress for being outdoors - we will have tents set up. Please spread the word to Leelanau families with children 0 through age 6.

Tired after a long day of school? Come unwind with an afternoon of crafting in Teen Services! Try your hand at 3D art, quilling, jewelry making, and so much more-- featured crafts vary by month, so there's always something new to try. October's crafts are 3D Paper Halloween Scenes and Yarn Ghost Quote Cards, so get inspired by the spooky season! All supplies are provided.

Peepers Program: Magnificent Mammals
The Peepers Program from the Grand Traverse Conservation Districy is an adult-accompanied program for early learners ages 3-5 years old, of all experience levels with the natural world. 60-minute nature programs include music, discovery hikes, stories, and crafts. The program cost is $5/child per session and 100% outside. *CASH ONLY*

Earth Science Week & National Fossil Day Celebration
Get ready to venture into the dynamic world of Earth science! The Pebble Pups and the GTCD are thrilled to announce a joint celebration of Earth Science Week (October 12th -18th) and National Fossil Day (October 15th)!
This immersive experience will showcase the incredible ways Earth science is conducted by a diverse range of people and professions. From geologists to hydrologists, environmental scientists to paleontologists, you will discover how these interconnected disciplines work together to solve critical problems for our communities and the planet.
This year's Earth Science Week theme, "Energy Resources for Our Future," will spark fascinating discussions and activities as we explore the vital role Earth science plays in securing sustainable energy for generations to come.
We'll also be diving deep into the past as we celebrate National Fossil Day! Get ready to marvel at a collection of truly amazing fossils, uncovering the secrets they hold about ancient life and Earth's incredible history. You won't just learn about fossils – you'll leave with one of your very own to start your personal collection!
